01 · Origin

Five decades on the water. Not one rejected load.

Aragonite Source is run by the former principals of Marcona, who harvested aragonite at Ocean Cay from the 1970s into the early 2000s. Today, in close conjunction with the Bahamian government, we dig at sites chosen two ways: they test uniform, and they renew.

The job is to deliver on time, always to specification. We have never had a rejected load, and we have never failed to meet customer demand.

Composition

Pure from the start

Bahamian oolites are a very pure calcium carbonate. Ovular grains, built from needle-like crystals that clump together as they precipitate to the ocean floor. Same chemistry, load after load.

Renewability

Constantly forming

Limestone is finite. Aragonite forms continuously, and in great numbers, where Atlantic waters converge with the Gulf Stream. A mineral resource that renews itself.

Carbon

Born of carbon capture

Phytoplankton pull carbon out of the atmosphere. It binds with calcium in seawater and settles to the ocean floor as aragonite. Harvesting shallow water can even increase the rate at which it forms.
