Environmental Remediation
Pure, reactive aragonite for environmental remediation.
A pure, renewable calcium carbonate for buffering and treatment work, with uniform chemistry load after load. We're the world's largest supplier of oolitic aragonite, out of the shallow waters of the Bahamas.
In the water
Aragonite in water treatment and remediation
A material that's clean to begin with
Aragonite comes out of the ocean already pure. Typically a minimum of 96% CaCO₃, with iron (Fe₂O₃) held to a maximum of 80 ppm. Clean, ocean-sourced material, pure enough that we publish its typical analysis.
Porosity that does the work
Aragonite's porosity and spongelike quality make it an effective tool for remediation, and it's more reactive than many alternatives. Pollutants and toxins are absorbed and contained to the area.
Buffering and treatment
Buffering and treatment work is a natural fit for a high-purity calcium carbonate. Because the chemistry doesn't move between loads, results stay predictable across the length of a project.
Acid mine drainage treatment
Acid mine drainage treatment is one of the applications buyers come to us for. We supply the mineral, not the design. A pure calcium carbonate, CaCO₃ at a minimum of 96%, in bulk, at the gradation your engineer specifies, load after load.
pH neutralization and water treatment
pH neutralization and water treatment programs qualify a carbonate on purity, iron, and gradation. All three are published below: CaCO₃ 96% minimum, Fe₂O₃ 80 ppm maximum, and a full sieve analysis. Size the material to your process before you commit to it. Tighter and ultra-fine gradations are available on request.
Renewable, and still forming
Limestone is finite. Aragonite forms continuously where Atlantic waters converge with the Gulf Stream. It is a renewable mineral resource, born of carbon capture. For a program measured on environmental outcomes, the input itself is sustainable.

What we publish for treatment work
The values below are the typical analysis of our oolitic aragonite as harvested and processed. Use them to qualify the material against your process requirements. Certified assays and lot-specific documentation are available on request.
Remediation buyers start with CaCO₃ at 96% minimum and Fe₂O₃ at 80 ppm maximum, because a high-purity, low-iron material doesn't add its own contaminant load. Then the sieve analysis, since gradation and surface area drive reactivity. Tighter and ultra-fine gradations are available on request.

Supply and delivery
Volume that holds for the length of a project
Aragonite Source is led by the former principals of Marcona, who harvested aragonite at Ocean Cay from the 1970s into the early 2000s. We dig in close conjunction with the Bahamian government, and a site earns its place by testing uniform and by renewing.
Millions of tons sold. Hundreds of customers. Over 50 years on the water. We have never had a rejected load, and we have never failed to meet customer demand.
Bulk quantities move on our own truck fleet plus rail out of our own yard. Consistent, and on time.
